School will be in session for 1/2 day on April 3, 2026.
Dear Fire Island Families,
I am writing to inform you of an adjustment to our school district calendar.
New York State requires all school districts to provide 180 instructional days each year. While the district did submit a waiver request to the New York State Education Department, we were advised that approval is uncertain and could potentially result in the loss of state aid. NYSED has also indicated that final determinations regarding waivers may not be made until August.
To ensure we remain in compliance with the state requirement, Friday, April 3 will now be a half day of school for Woodhull students.
Students will be dismissed at 11:15 a.m., and transportation will run accordingly.
We recognize that this change occurs immediately before spring recess and may require adjustments for some families. Thank you for your understanding as we work to meet state requirements.
