Parental Help

Students learning an instrument will benefit tremendously from parental interest and support. They are learning not just about pitches, notes, and rhythms, but also discipline, responsibility, and the joy of music. Please see the section called “Practicing,” which describes what is expected of students when they are told to “practice,” so that you may encourage this to actually take place. Learning an instrument requires some cooperation and understanding among household members at any age. Also, please see the “Weekly Schedule and Calendar” section which describes on which day students with instruments will need to bring them to school. Although music classes meet only once a week in most cases, home practice should be treated like homework to be done at least every school night.
