For the fifth consecutive year, Woodhull Elementary School has been recognized by the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation for its support of music education.

The organization bestowed the SupportMusic Merit Award on individual schools participating in the “Best Communities for Music Education” survey that meet criteria relating to music program content, resources, staffing, scheduling and opportunities for students. A separate designation is given to school districts.

Woodhull offers all students at least two periods of music per week. All students in third through sixth grade participate in instrumental ensembles and have an additional period of music per week. Vocal music is incorporated into classroom music, and the school also produces a theatrical musical every winter featuring all PK-6 students.

“It’s a very unique thing to have 100% of students in a grade level participate in instrumental music,” said Woodhull music teacher Philip Tamberino. “I enjoy it because I do believe music is for everyone and it teaches valuable life skills.”
